Race two at Del Mar is a 7 furlong $25,000 Claiming race for three year olds and upward that have never won two races. There are six horses in this field.

Mud Light : This 5 year old Gelding is a 9-5 favorite. He’s raced twice in 2006—both times under 7 furlongs. Both times he failed to impress and finished 8th. The good news is he can’t finish 8th today. His lone win was in April of 2004. It was a Maiden Special Weight 44k race.

This Wizard Rocks : He’s a 4 year old Gelding and 9-2 on the morning line. He’s been racing around this level in 2006 and not doing too well. His last race was the best. It was at Hollywood Park and he finished 4th.

Under House Arrest : 5-2 on the morning line and coming down in class. He had been racing $40,000 Allowance races. His last race was also a $25,000 Claiming race. He didn’t do too well. He faded fast and finished in 6th.

Goblin Valley : Broke his maiden at Hollywood Park on July 9 in a $25,000 Maiden race. After battling, he broke away down the stretch. He’s stepping up in class, but could surprise. Arias is riding him for the third time in a row and seems to have a good idea on how to ride this horse.

The Rye Man : He’s 5-1 and could be in the mix. He’s mainly raced at the 1 1/16th distance. His last race was on July 7 at Hollywood Park. He was staying back and come on in the end to move from 6th to 4th. He’s a bit of a closer and today’s distance should give him a shot at finishing in the money.

Striking Vision : This 4 year old Gelding is listed at 5-1. He has just one race in 2006. It was on July 15 at Hollywood Park. He finished 7th out of 8 horses in the $25,000 Claiming race—almost 19 lengths off the lead. His lone win was a 1 1/8th mile claimer on turf. With today’s race being on dirt and his poor past performances, I don’t see him being a factor.
