The first race at Evangeline downs features a ten-horse field. The race is six furlongs in length. It’s a $22,000 claiming race for Fillies and Mares 3 years old or older who have never won two races. The consensus pick appears to be A Lady for Apollo, which is the race favorite at 8-5.
A Lady for Apollo is making a class jump. She has typically been running at the $12,500 claiming level. She has never won at that level, but was coming in second with consistency. She has been off for about one month now—no workouts either. Personally, I am a little bit cautious on this one. She has run in two $20,000 claiming races this year. The first time she closed to third. The second time she stumbled and was eased.
I would look for the 3 horse, That’s It. She has shown some ability at higher classes and may be coming down to scoop up a win and regain some confidence. The morning line has That’s It at 5-2. I expect the line to move.
