Race three at Evangeline Downs is 5 1/2 furlongs. It is a $10,000 Maiden Claiming race for accredited LA Bred Maidens that are three years old. The field is twelve horses strong. The two horses that, according to the morning line, are ones to watch are Political Tirade (5-1) in the 5 position and Nunez (3-1) in the 6 position. I like Nunez in this one.

Nunez is 3-1 and with good reason. He’s a 3 year old Gelding that almost went wire to wire last time out. That race was June 9. It was also a $10,000 Maiden special race. He was in a race with No Signal the whole way and gave up just before the wire. This race has some early speed, but they are all droppers. Nunez has a very good shot and taking the race. I would be surprised if he did not finish in the money.

Political Tirade last raced on June 7 in a 34k Maiden Special Weight rave. He’s a 3 year old Gelding that really has not shown much. He has shown some ability to close, so that remains a possibility should a race break out. I think he will spend the race looking at other horses.

This race could be a battle and Beau the Line might be there to take advantage. Look for him to sit just off the pace and perhaps make a late run at it.
