Race four at Mountaineer Park is a one mile race for fillies three years old and upward that have never won two races. This is a $27,800 allowance race. There are six horses in today’s field. Post time is expected to be about 8:15 p.m. EST (5:15 p.m. PST). It looks to be a competitive field. The favorite is High Speed Ali and she’s listed at 6/5 on the morning line.

Here’s a breakdown of the field.

1: Artemus Runner : She’s 7-2 on the morning line. He last race was here on October 7. It was a mile long as well. She was right in the mix the whole way and dueled at the end. She finished 2nd by 1.5 lengths.

2: Upscale : She is 15-1 on the morning line and she’s not expected to do much in this tough field. She won her last race, which was on September 29 at this track. However, that race was only 5 furlongs. She’s proven to lack the stuff for longer races.

3: Kettleoneup : At 3-1 on the morning line, she could make a bid for this one. Her last race was here on September 25. It was one mile also and she blasted off for victory around the turn. She finished in first 11 lengths ahead of the second place finisher.

4: Broken Smile : I’m not sure what to expect out of her. She’s 5-1 on the morning line and her only one mile race was on turf. She could be a pacesetter, but she lacks the ability to get out in front of this field when it counts. While a finish in the money is certainly possible, I don’t see her winning this one.

5: Soft Day : 10 to 1 on the money line for a reason. She’s had problems starting out clean and she lacks the speed the other contenders have. I look for her to possible help set the pace, but to drop back in the end.

6: High Speed Ali : She’s your favorite at 6-5 on the morning line. Her last race was September 29 at this track. It was a 6 furlong race and she finished in third. I’m not sold on her.

I like Kettleoneup to mix it up and possibly win this one. Look for her to stay back the first half of the race then turn it on for the money finish.
